Editorial Reviews

Compared to the brash pop of Damon Albarn's Gorillaz side project and 1999's overtly emotional 13, Think Tank is a soulful and subtle affair—its tone possibly traceable to the departure of founding member Graham Coxon midway through its recording. There are classic Blur rock moments here, notably "Crazy Beat," which is cut from the same cloth as the classic "Song 2," and the painfully short but brilliant "We've Got a File On You," which sounds like agitprop punks Crass mixed up with a Moroccan snake charmer. But while Albarn still has an ear for a melody, without Coxon's guitars to subvert them, most of these songs sound like the work of a new band. "Caravan"'s sleepy rhythm plods at a camel's pace, while "Gene by Gene" employs cross rhythms to evoke desert images. Blur is now more about textures rather than standard rock rhythms. Some will find their evolution off-putting, but for fans who appreciate a band that refuses to sit still, Think Tank is a rewarding listen. --Caroline Butler

that is important.. every song on this album is good
this album is an amazing album, I don't know how Damon has such great output of creativity. this man and his band blur are a stadium band, they sell out arenas for several days in a row, this on top of his solo career and gorillaz this man has to be one of the most creative and prolific song writers in music history. not to mention his operas and other projects.. Amazing stuff check it out

After hearing how this latest offering by Blur was less than desirable due to Graham Coxon's departure, I was worried that Blur may have begun some downward spiral. How wrong was I??
Those that have said "Think Tank" is unlike their previous material and therefore wasn't up to par really cannot appreciate growth and change great bands go through. If you want the same sound over and over, continue to listen to your American Idols and Dave Matthew's Band whose only staying power is that it's generic enough to appeal to the widest of audiences.
Blur is for serious music lovers craving the passion and poetry that sets them apart from the "artist de jour" that some executive decided to promote due to their mass appeal. I can't say enough how enriching Blur is for this music junkie. To try and highlight specific tracks from Think Tank is difficult, but I immediately took to Ambulance, Out of Time, and Sweet Song. Damon Albarn's sultry voice could melt steel!!
The trademark Blur sound survives in spite of Coxon's departure, but they have also matured keeping their fans satisfied with unique offerings. This is yet another "must have" for true Blur followers.

this is my favorite album of all time and has been since it came out all those years ago. It has a totally difffernt feel from all over Blur albums, but little did I know when buying this album that I would prefer this to their more poppy, upbeat stuff. The closest thing to the feel of this album since is Damon's solo album from 2014 'Everyday Robots'

Popshit dance funk funky the best way to get the job done in time to get it now and again. The only problem is that the company is looking forward, but I think it was not able the best way to get it.

Uno de mis discos favoritos de Blur, un temazo detrás de otro. Solo echo de menos a Coxon que no participó en él, pero suena increíble, comprometido, sentido… desde la primera a la última todas las canciones son enormes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Das komplette Spätwerk
Reviewed in Germany on August 30, 2014

5.0 out of 5 stars Think Tank-Blur
Reviewed in Canada on May 30, 2012
After blur's awkward start to the 21st-century (what with losing their guitarist, and the start of the gorillaz), one can only wonder if the brit-pop boys still had it in them. Think Tank is not only one of 2003's best albums, but for me, is blur's best and most creative album. They focused more on experimenting with new and origional sounds (much like with the gorillaz debut album), instead of the finding the next cool guitar rift to please the American audiances. "Out of Time", "Sweet Song", and "Gene by Gene" are among the albums best songs!
