After rediscovering Los Lobos last year I started buying more recent releases from them (I was a follower in the 80's). This CD surprised me in it's diverse offerings. Love the title track - one whose guitar licks stick in your head long after. The slower tracks by Rosas are heartfelt, you know he is pulling himself up from tough times. Also check out youtube for a Cincinatti concert where they play many of the tracks of this CD.

This one is nothing more than mainstream rock, and while that
in it's self is not inherently bad, I've come to expect much
better from this band. I would recommend KIKO or BY THE LIGHT
OF THE MOON instead, especially if you are a new comer to LOS
LOBOS. THE NEIGHBORHOOD would also be an excellent choice. I
enjoy this band very much, but not this release. I hope their
next offering sees them returning to form.

I have been collecting the entire Los Lobos back catalogue after recently purchasing the Kiko live DVD, which I highly recommend.

This album is not as good as Kiko, and in my opinion, not as good as the town and the city. Both those albums are so thematically coherent and suffer from no moments of mediocre songwriting.

There are a few tracks on this album that come off a bit boilerplate, but the title track and the last three or four tracks are excellent, and I particularly enjoyed some of the great keyboard playing on "Luz..." also some tasty violin from David on this album, which makes it a bit different from more recent offerings.

Definitely worth having in your collection if you are a diehard fan like myself, but I would certainly not start here.
