Exactly what I was looking for...
First, I'd like to say, I'm very confused about the other reviews on this product. The top part of a double boiler is generally a glass bowl or aluminum pan or bowl. It should never be non-stick. You want to be able to use all kind of tools when double boiling, like an electric mixer, when making egg white based frostings. A non-stick surface would chip and scratch and get into your food. So, having said that, this is exactly what I have been looking for in a double boiler. A light weight top pan over a heavier more durable bottom pan. The lid fits perfect over both pans and the non stick pan has a really nice finish that doesn't look like it will chip or peel (with proper care). I will update on durability if anything goes wrong after using it for a while.

The top is stainless steel and the bottom is non stick. I don't need a double boiler very often but when I do I find it so cumbersome to use a bowl over a pot. It's hard to safely remove the bowl when it's hot or full of hot liquid. Sometimes you have to check the water level and add more water. I like the handles on these and the lid is very nice. The lid is glass and has a vent hole. The whole set is nice. It's lightweight too and made of a light gauged stainless steel. I will be making yogurt in this and maybe chocolate candy and more. The last time I made yogurt with a bowl, I decided to get this. It's much better to have something that is easier to use and safer.
It looks nice too.
It's later now and I made yogurt in this. It went faster than usual because of the thin stainless steel but my yogurt turned out perfect. Next time I'll lower the heat and go a little slower even though it was the perfect consistency and turned out great.
Most importantly, I got to safely removed the top part to check the water level which was great!

This is an excellent double boiler. I had some concerns because of some of the negative comments. When I got the pan, I was surprised at its size. It's big. It's bigger than the pan I was replacing. I poured two quarts of water into the upper pan and had an inch to spare. This is a two-quart pan, even though some reviews said it wasn't. The upper pan has an indentation an inch from the bottom that keeps it from falling into the lower pan. So, yes, food can get into the indentation. So what? I use the double boiler to make sticky steel-cut oats that wash out easily. There was also a comment that the upper pan only left an inch of space for water in the bottom pan. Not true. The bottom pan is four inches deep and the top pan only takes an inch of space. Both pieces fit together nicely. They're snug enough to prevent too much steam to escape but not so tight that they stick together. Several comments were that the upper pan isn't coated. That's exactly why I bought it. I don't want coating in my food. The pan washes well without being coated. I recommend this double boiler and have nothing bad to say about it.

Overall do like the set, its $19 price was very good and in the end, it will do what i need it to do IF its top is truly stainless steel! Top pan does not seem like stainless steel and really does look and feel like aluminum at least on inside to me and my husband, it's extremely thin and it weights less than 15 ounces. After checking around, most odd places you can find it lists it as stainless steel but, i did see it listed as aluminum on wallmart site and one other site. Without knowing for sure, i am kind of iffy about using it for reason i bought it (to make homemade yogurt in).

overall and other than top pot material, pot is well made and heated water up pretty quickly. The lid is actually great too if you have one of them long metal thermometers, it fits right into the vent hole on lid and holds itself up. There are instructions to prep non-stick pan before first use and they say NOT to use with heat higher than medium and something about voiding warranty if used with high heat...

update: after first two uses heating water on medium heat, the bottom pan has a whitish ring around it inside that is unremovable. No big deal if one is only going to be using water in it i guess and i suppose on the bright side, i now don't need to guess the height of the water when using the insert pan in it. Either-way, still like set but, i have personally decided to get a corning vision glass boiler insert because my last three batches of yogurt has had a slight off taste since using this top pan to heat my milk to 185 degrees.

Great little pan set, I read some reviews that said it was "too light" or that it warped or that it just did not seem "heavy enough " . Hey for less than 20.00 what do you expect ? I have no issue with this product it does exactly what it is supposed to do. One reviewer said it did not fit well together, mine was perfect, yes it lets steam out between the boilers if it did not it would become a pressurized bomb. I use this to re-liquefy honey that has started to crystallize. Put water in bottom pan and honey in top one, turn stove on and monitor honey temperature closely. Do not let honey get above 120 degrees, ( 140 is what experts say, I err on side of caution) , this keeps from destroying the enzymes in raw honey. I am very pleased with this and do not regret this purchase, it is just what I need. It may not (probably won't ) last as long as a 100.00 dollar set but for my purpose it is fine. Just don't expect to need two hands to pick it up, it is light weight and holds 2 quarts with plenty of room to stir. I hope this information is helpful
