1. If you are looking for a high quality, top grade reclining massage chair, then you are looking in the WRONG category. Add $300 to $500 dollars more in your search to find a name brand item and you will find what you are looking for. So please, don't complain that the quality isn't good when this chair is specifically priced in the lower range so that the average Joe can have a nice chair to relax in.
2. I go to a nail salon that has true massage chairs with all sorts of options. Do you REALLY expect to get that level of massage in a chair at this price?! If that is what you want, go back to #1. This chair vibrates. Vibration is energy in motion and energy in motion USUALLY makes some sort of noise. So please don't be surprised when you hear vibration. If you want a silent vibrating chair, again, please go back to #1. PS. The vibration is not that loud. My portable air conditioner is much MUCH louder than this chair. If it annoys you, simply unplug it. Walla. No noise.
3. I was confused by the color pictured here. Dorel would do well to change the stock photos on this chair. Some pictures show a darker brown, then this and then a tan. There are only TWO colors, chocolate and tan. I was concerned I would get the color pictured when I wanted the darker brown. This chair IS darker than pictured here and exactly what I was hoping for. If you want to choose the color of your chair, then again, please go back to point #1.
4. This is a great quality of microfiber material. It is NOT super heavy or thick material. Again, if you want a top of the line upholstery, please see #1. My prior recliners, as well as my microfiber desk chair, all have this material and yes, it cleans up easily and no, it does NOT come already scotch guarded. If you want scotch guarding, please see #1.
5. This is not a small chair, nor is it an oversized chair. If you wanted a small chair, you paid too much. If you want an oversized, overstuffed chair, please see #1.
Specifics: I am a 5’6” 55-year-old female who weighs 230lbs. I am also disabled. I am not strong anymore. When I first sat in the chair, it did fit snug. Then I realized, the arms had been smooshed in the box and the padding folded to the inside of the chair, making it appear snugger than it is.
Last night, I injured my hip while re-arranging furniture for the arrival of this chair. I did it on purpose JUST to make sure that my review here is completely accurate (not really, just joking). The lever is easy to push and the leg rest is high, which I really like and find very comfortable, more so than other chairs I have owned in the past. Honest to God, this is the first time all day that I have not been in agony. Yeah, the pain meds kicked in, but I am also comfortable. I couldn’t sleep all night because of the pain and I am NOT moving from this chair until I see my doctor—it is that comfortable. Even with pain radiating down my right leg, it is so simple to push the leg rest down. Plus, my arms are the perfect height on the arm rests to not cause shoulder tension from sitting too high. It’s a perfect fit for me.
Now my son is 23 and well over 6’ tall. He is probably about 250 pounds. His head hits the top of the chair but he says it is comfortable. He fits perfectly into the chair and finds it very comfortable as well.
So, if you are 7’4” and weigh 350+lbs, then this is not the chair for you. See #1. But if you are a typical worn out average joe that wants a comfy chair, then this is for you.
6. The chair is true to the measurements in the description. I was surprised that it sat so low to the ground. At first glance, I thought this might be a problem, but it is higher than my couch but lower than my desk chair set at its highest level. Also, I thought this would be difficult to stand up from and it isn’t; it’s easier to rise from than from my couch. The back lean is low, lower than my standard couch. This is a plus for me as I am in a large master bedroom made into a studio. It makes my room look so much bigger.
7. Fed Ex delivered the chair to my door. I did not need them to transport it for me, but I am sure they would have brought it into my house if I needed. They’re good like that. No, I could not bring the chair upstairs, my son and his Dad had to do that for me. But hey, that’s what family is for, right?
8. Set up. The chair comes in two pieces—the back lean and the base. Now, the last time I bought a recliner, it took 3 HUGE young men to get the top to seat into the bottom. You should connect the vibration wire from the back lean to the bottom. I couldn’t get it to fit, but my son did with no problem at all. The cord and controls were in a built-in side pocket just under the left armrest. The cord plugs in to the back base of the chair just like a cord fits into a computer. Easy peasy. I guided the top metal sides into the bottom metal sides as my son held the back lean. One simple push; two loud clicks and the back lean was secured and the chair set up. Less than 1 minute. Honest. Plus, the chair is not super heavy. I will be able to manage moving it for vacuuming or lost dog toys.
9. Chair positions and rocking. Again, if you want a chair that flips into 10 different positions and twirls you around while rocking you like a baby, then please go back and read #1. Here is what you get:
* The foot rest goes up. Once. It clicks. It locks. Once. Not twice, or three times: Once.
* The back lean goes back. It doesn’t click. Not once. Not twice, or even three times. It does NOT click or lock. BUT, it manages to stay in whatever angle I want it to with no problem at all.
* I gave this its own bullet because, it honestly does lay almost completely flat—like if you were to prop yourself up with two full pillows flat. I’m tired. It is perfect for sleeping. I want to sleep. In this chair. It’s that comfortable.
* The chair rocks when you sit down. You can rock all you want if you don’t put the foot rest up. But…if you don’t put the foot rest up, the back lean does not recline. If you want a chair that reclines at the same time, together, then again, refer to #1.
10. Durability of build. While putting the chair together, I only glanced at the infrastructure of the chair. I did note though that the metal bars to the foot rest appeared to not be as wide as what I remember from my old chairs. That could be an issue. This is NOT a heavy chair and I would assume that put up against a heavier chair, it would lose in quality of construction. But from what I can see, it is durable. There are no squeaks or loose pieces. I wouldn’t use it as a trampoline though. But then again, it’s not meant to be one. And if that’s what you want, then refer to #1.
So, there you have it. If you are looking for a reclining chair in the $200-300 range, that looks nice, cleans up easily after life happens, is super SUPER comfortable, can recline back enough to sleep in (awesome for acid reflux sufferers), fits the average oversized Joe Blow, includes a pretty useless vibration mode (that might sooth a colicky baby maybe) and want it delivered to your doorstep…well then, this chair is for you. But if you are looking for something more than that, you got to be realistic about the price you are going to pay. The average recliner is between $350 to $500 out the door. Just please don’t come back and post bad reviews because you expected to get more than what you are willing to pay for. That’s not the chair’s fault, it’s yours.
Personally, I love this chair. It is exactly what I wanted at a price I could afford. Well worth every penny.
