Amaranthus (Amaranthus Hypochondriacus Pygmy Torch)
You can grow Amaranthus plants in clumps in your flower beds, or use them to add a bold color contrast to your container plants. Amaranthus Pygmy Torch is also excellent for cutting and drying. It has beautiful 12 inch spikes of crimson flowers all summer long. It is a very early bloomer and easy to grow from flower seed.
Amaranthus Pygmy Torch has an upright shape and oval green foliage. It produces flowers during the early summer and autumn that are spikes in shape and crimson in color. It requires a moist, rich and well-drained soil. It prefers full sun, and a position in a border, or it works well in a container. Keep Amaranthus seeds moist after sowing.
This particular type of Amaranthus is commonly called Prince's Feather and Prince-of-Wales Feather. These flowers are also fantastic cut flowers! They are wonderful in a fresh or dried arrangement, and the flowers retain their color for a long time after they are cut.

How to Grow
To sow Amaranthus seeds indoors, sow approximately 6 weeks before frost season is over. Transplant outdoors when temperatures are warming. Grow in loam-based potting compost (No. 2) in full light. Water freely in summer, and provide high humidity if possible.
To sow outdoors, sow seeds after frost season is over and night time temperatures are staying in the upper 40's. Grow in moderately fertile, humus-rich, and moist soil in a full-sun, sheltered site. Amaranthus Caudatus will tolerate poor soil. Water freely during dry periods in summer to prolong flowering.

Not dramatic but bloomed
I tend to just throw a mixture of seed into a pot & see what germinates! To my surprise these seeds germinated & bloomed. Mine do not look like the picture advertising them but I am happy with the plant!
