Update 7/20/2016: I live in the Mohave Desert where temperatures have been 120 degrees...in the shade! I put a deck sealer on the dog house in May. So far the wood is holding up perfect; even in our extreme climate! Our dogs don't use the dog house on hot days, so it makes a great place to store all their outdoor toys. We're still very happy with our purchase! :)

Like so many others, I found the shipping preparation on this fragile house to be absolutely pathetic. The ridiculously thin cardboard box arrived torn in several places, with one corner completely exposed. The scant packing materials would suffice if this difficult-size-to-grasp box was more substantial AND if it provided a means of lifting its 60 pound cargo, like cut-outs on two sides or a couple of plastic straps. I suspect this is the major cause of the product damage that so many of us experience.
I fared better than many with some deep scrapes on the "shingles" and just two pieces of split wood; one on the porch floor slat that contains the supporting underlip for the other half of the floor, and the other split several inches long on the vertical support "beam" at the open end of the porch. Both pieces will hold up for now because this house sits nestled inside our large, covered stoop, and because its only inhabitants will be cats.
The hinged half of the roof, however, although not damaged, wasn't attachable without resulting in a 3/4" gap (eventually narrowing to zero) along one edge, and about half that on the other side. The inner top plate simply wasn't cut properly and/or attached properly to come close to fitting the sides. But I actually didn't care because I don't want a hinged roof anyway. I prefer to completely remove it when fiddling with all the innards I have in there (bedding and a heat lamp). But removing that strip of wood (the piece with the hinges) from the roof's edge left at least a quarter inch gap all along the top of the wall for air to blow in, so I had to come up with a filler. No problem, but the roof also doesn't have anything to stop it from sliding off now, although its sheer weight and protected location probably mean it'll never budge, but nonetheless, I installed a small hook-and-eye along one edge at its peak.
Although very cute and of a clever design which I love, I can't imagine this house of barely clinging together, undetectably "painted" boards would hold up long in a fully outdoor location, or housing any but the most respectful, daintiest of pets. Even so, I do recommend this unit. Think of it as your base kit, to which you can easily add stabilizers, reinforcements, legitimate stain or paint, insulation, or even a balcony on top for sunny day lounging.
I added some extra decorations to make it extra special. My beagle boy is loving his new tiny house while he is outdoors. Not insulated, not a long term doghouse, not for all seasons unless you add insulation and seal the gaps.

2 The hinge didn't secure with given screws
3 multiple pieces were missing (wood and screws)
4 instructions were unclear and vague (no pieces were labeled, missing screws were only labeled as A,B,C,etc.. no dimensions; total pictures for putting it together: 4)
5 the wood was very brittle
Overall: poor quality, poor directions, pretty design.
