To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I love this CD. I'd lost track of Sinead's work since the mid 90s only to rediscover it recently. Along with being a fan of edgy, angry progressive/punk, I have a fondness of traditional roots music. I spent a semester in Scotland during the 80s and enjoyed live performances of traditional folk. If you have an interest in this genre you'll likely want this disk. For those who aren't familier with these traditional tunes this CD would make a great introduction. Sinead brings a unique interpretation to these old works, making them ethereal at times. She is at her prime vocally and it shows. Her voice moves from sweet to searing depending on the material. Her liner notes make clear how timeless the song's meanings are--dealing with sexuality, death, grief and passionate love of country. True to form, Sinead's rendering makes clear her passionate emotional connection to the material.
It’s worth ordering the CD as it has a booklet with all the words and information on the songs from Sinead O’Conner. She said she wanted to make this album all her life- all traditional Irish songs with the top Irish musicians and Sinead’s amazing voice. Really a treat and something I’ll listen to for years.
